The powers that be tend to use past behaviors as an indicator of current and potential future actions. They limit your ability for employment and housing but do not take into account that some individuals actually mature and move past certain mistakes that has happened many years ago. Yet the system insists you "get a job" and stop living in the "projects". Although some are able to move past this hurdle many more cannot and there are various reasons why. Of course, there are some that are never going to change their ways and precaution must be excersized. But I believe your question is regarding those who have changed and now have the capacity to be productive individuals in society. Before this economic down turn or should I say recession, there were more opportunities but required time, sacrafice, and lots of work. Now those little extras have gone away and companies are in a position where they can pick and choose the elite of the group. They are bias towards those with records even though the applications may say they are not. They look at everyone as an investment and especially nowadays no company wants to take a chance on someone. That's why we try to bring out material to help those insearch for employment or to start their own business because we know it is especially difficult in these times. What's sad is that there are many people out there, good people, that for some reason or another had a low point in life but has turned it all around, they have lots to offer and would be loyal employees. Yet, because of the potential risks and biases that corporate America seems to have those people will have a very hard time finding employment. Meaning that there will be good people living in bad situations. The truth is that many people who are caught doing illegal activities in companies are those who never had a record. It is easier for them to go unnoticed because they are looked at as "good guys" but are anything but. My suggestion is to either take a deep breath and move forward in the struggle looking for every possible opportunity to make a positive name for yourself as a hard worker so you'll get noticed or start your own business. "Lets define the meaning of mistakes". - An error in action, calculation, opinion, or judgment caused by poor reasoning, carelessness, insufficient knowledge, etc. a misunderstanding or misconception. My point is that we are only human, and we will make mistakes, and we need to learn from these mistakes so as to not go through such path again, specially when it affects the future of our love ones. So, get up, brush off the dust, and move on, and just remember the mistake so as to not make it again.
